Calling All Baggers! Klock Werks and S&S Invite you to Join the Camaraderie of Land Speed Racing…

Klock Werks and S&S anounce the WFB (World’s Fastest Bagger) Traveling Cup Award!  And for the first time in history, the inaugural WFB Traveling Cup will be presented to one of you who have the sickness of speed.

In 2006, the Krew at Klock Werks because the first to build a “bagger”, or touring bike, for the Discovery Channel Biker Build Off Series, which they WON, and the first to set a National Land Speed Record with that type of bike the same year.  Klock Werks entered into racing hoping that more builders and companies would join them, as they felt it would only lead to more performance products for baggers.  True to that initial vision, it was from their efforts on the salt that their own FLARE Windshield was born.  The FLARE is now their number one selling part, and has proven to be a product that not only looks great, it performs, adding downforce and aiding stability at racing speeds, as well as highway speeds.  So now, after racing the same bagger for the last 3 years and setting records each year with it, they’ve decided to take a year off, and simply INVITE more racers to come!  When Klock Werks spoke with S&S about the idea, they signed up.  Didn’t hurt that the World’s Fastest Bagger runs on an S&S 124″ motor.

Klock Werks and S&S introduce to you the WFB Traveling Cup!  The 2009 winner will recieve $500 in S&S product, $500 in Klock Werks product, and a gift certificate for a Klock Werks FLARE Windshield!  Notice that we mention traveling CUP - it’s a big cup, and the hope is that other companies will join in and fill the cup.  The winner from each year will have their name, team, and speed attached to the cup, and it will be passed on year to year.  The cup at this time has 3 plates on it, for the 3 years that Laura Klock piloted the World’s Fastest Bagger to National Land Speed Records.  Let’s get YOUR name added!

And you don’t even have to set a record.  As we go forward, the records in the classes we run in can get bumped higher by bikes that are not “baggers”, so we are simply asking you to turn in your official timing slip with your top time for a one way pass from the Bub Motorcycle Speed Trials event.  Your bike needs to be a bagger for this to be fair, it’s a bagger award, so we respectfully submit the following guidelines:

  • American Powered V-Twin
  • Bike must have a fairing with a MIMIMUM frontal are of 388 square inches, including headlight and windshield
  • You must run with saddlebags on, with 75 square inches mimimum frontal area per bag

Top Time Definition: Top times are defined as the motorcycle that reaches the highest average speed over a timed measured mile, and that meets the appropriate category criteria as listed above.  All times will be verified by the official event timers and the event promoters.  Prize winners do not have to break the record to be eligible, as long as they have the highest average speed at the completion of the eligibility period duing that years event.

Conditions:

  • All Motorcycles must meet as a mimimum the regulations set out in Chapters 1 & 2 in the 2009 AMA Supplemental Regulations for Bonneville, and needs to be legal for an AMA or FIM class.
  • All awards/prize money winners must complete an entry form for the event and be in good standing with the Event Promoters and the AMA.  Open to all AMA and FIM participants that meet the listed criteria.
  • Awards/prize money recipients will be deemed void if they do not meet all criteria and awards/prize money will be presented to the next elibigle participant that meets the applicable criteria.
  • Prize money is awarded for the individual events and the amounts awarded, catergories available, and the eligibility time period are at the sole discrection of the Event Promoters for each annual event.
  • The AMA and FIM do not verify award money eligibility.
  • All award money recipients must complete a W-9 form before any prize money will be issued from Bub racing (forms will be available in the registration area).  Some prize money may be issued directly from the sponsor.
  • Participants are eligible for more than one prize money category, as long as the criteria is fulfilled for both categories.  Should the same bike run in two different classes/categories, times cannot be interchanged between classes.
  • All eligibility time period information will be included in pre-entry confirmation, and/or posted at the event in the Event Registration Area.
  • The Event Promoters have created these rules in the best interest of fairness and in the spirit of the competition.  The Event Promoters will make the final decision regarding compliance of the rules and in the event of a dispute the Event Promoters’ decision is final.

Beyond that, get creative, keep it fair, and let’s keep the true spirit of the salt alive.  Helping each other out, sharing in victory and defeat, and keeping the sport FUN!!

We wish you the best!  See you on the salt!

Anyone interested in possibly winning the cup and prizes included should contact Laura Klock at laura@kustomcycles.com or (605) 996-3700.  For more details on the sponsors, please go to www.kustombaggers.com; www.sscycle.com; and www.speedtrialsbybub.com.

Klock Werks Pre-Sturgis Party and Benefit for Dave Dunn

What: Annual PRE-STURGIS Party

Where: Klock Werks Shop (915 South Kimball, Mitchell, SD)

When: Thursday, July 30

Who: Friends of Klock Werks!  Originally set up for anyone traveling to Sturgis from the east…this year to include Chris Callen from Cycle Source Magazine and Dain Gingerelli of IronWorks riding in on 2010 Harleys from Denver (not on the same bike, so get that ugly picture out of your head!)

Food, refreshments and fun at 6 p.m. – but stop in when you get to town!

And then ride with some of the Krew to the hills on Friday (July 31) morning!

For the 4th year in a row, Klock Werks, and now Kiwi Indian, have opened their doors at the busiest time of year to welcome friends, industry associates, family – everyone - into the shop right before Sturgis.

“One of our favorite parts of being in the industry that we are in is all of the GREAT people that we meet along the way,” state Laura and Brian Klock. “Stop by, have something to eat, and meet someone new. We’re here all day. There’s always last minute finishing touches going onto the Sturgis project bikes, people from literally all over the world hanging out…it’s just good stuff.”

And this year we will also be“Passing the Hat for Dave”. Laura’s dad, Dave Dunn, was involved in a motorcycle accident last year at Sturgis (August 4, 2008). Due to the accident, his lower right leg was amputated. Dave is coping well physically and spiritually, but you can imagine after 13 surgeries and months in the hospital what an accident does to someone financially as well. The family has learned more about legal issues and insurance companies than they ever cared to know. Dave needs a flexible foot in order to gain pre-accident mobility which the insurance company will not cover. Can you help him? It’ humbling for him to ask, so we are doing it for him! He will be here at the Pre-Sturgis Party and would love to share his story. Actually, Cycle Source magazine is following the rebuild – of his life and his bike.  A huge milestone recently was the completion by the Klock Werks Krew of Daves softail, the one that he crashed on. On Memorial Weekend, he did ride again for the first time.

We look forward to seeing you all…friends new and old, rookies and pros, knuckleheads, metrics, Indians, and Twin Cams.  Come out and share in the camaraderie that only happens at Sturgis.

If you are needing accommodations while you are in Mitchell, you can go to www.searchmitchell.com or www.visitmitchell.com for hotel information.

Back Home, Cover of American Iron and Proud to be an American

Brian, Laura, John, Luauna, the rest of the road Krew and the Klock Werks truck are all back home…just in time to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend.  The Children’s Hospital Charity event in Seattle was an amazing event and huge fundraiser for the Children’s Hospital.  J&P Cycles 30th Anniversary was another great event that was planned out and ran with the professionalism that John and Jill Parham always portray.  BUT in the end, it was refreshing to be home.

Check out the cover of American Iron (August 2009)!  Our very own, Chris Degen’s first bike feature (page 68) and the bike makes the cover!!  The Sippy Hole bike features Klock Werks NEW Perfecta Bars, Klock Werks Doubleback Exhaust system, Klock Werks front and rear fenders, and Klock Werks Dash.  Congrats to Chris and thanks to Greg Williams for writing a great feature and telling the story.

Thanks to Genevieve Schmitt for putting a shout out in her WRN eNewsletter (www.womenridersnow.com) about the Klock Werks FLARE Windshield in “Genevieve Joins the Bagger Brigade: Customizing a Harley Davidson Street Glide”.  The FLARE Windshield does make a difference in the handling of your bike and rerouting the wind around the rider PLUS it adds a sexy look to your bike!

Be sure to check out Hot Bike (vol. 41) page 94 - Blue Light Special: Auto Meter/Klock Werks Gauge Install.  This is a great tech article that focuses on the Auto Meter/Klock Werks Gauges!

On this Fourth of July weekend, hug your loved ones a little tighter, make sure they know you love them and count the many blessings that we receive just because we live in this great nation!!  Thanks to all the military personal that are fighting to keep our freedoms and the ones that came before us to defend this country.
