Klock Werks in the News

Our patent-pending FLARE Windshields are everywhere…check out the August 2008 issue of Hot Bike Baggers! Both bikes are the front cover are Rockin’ the FLARE! Dave Perewitz’s 2008 Road Glide which is the featured bagger has the 8” tint and Burlin “Big B” Harris is showing off the 6.5” dark smoke on his 2004 Yamha Road Star with a Corbin fairing – yes that is right – our FLARE windshields fit and look great on a Corbin fairing.

Also, read the story on the Yamaha Road Star. B.K. was a big part of that project…

Don’t stop at Hot Bike Baggers though…pick up the latest issue of American Bagger and check out Tom Austin’s DreamSickle that is now owned by Ray and Kristine Eads of Kingman, Az. A great example of a super makeover utilizing all the Klock Werks Bagger parts and sheetmetal. And of course, they too Rock the FLARE.

Let us hear your FLARE windshield stories – and as always, send us some photos of your bike Rockin’ the FLARE!! If we use your stuff, we may send you some good stuff!

Not to be outdone, the 2007 Seattle Children’s Hospital Charity Glide is on the cover of the June 2008 issue of V-Twin. Check out the 180 Tire Kit, Fenders, Exhaust, Bag Extensions and more. And yes, now it’s on display here in our showroom as one of our Partners, Greg Foster, owns it. He’s rocking a painted FLARE since these photos…stop by!

More About our FLARE Windshields…

With the overwhelming success of our patent-pending FLARE windshield, we have recieved an increase in customer inquiries, questions and people wanting to know what is in the future for our FLARE windshield. I decided to address some of the questions and concerns regarding our FLARE windshield and put the info out there…

Q. What Harley Davidson models do you make the FLARE windshield for?
A. All Road Glides and 86 and newer “Batwing” fairing models.

Q. Will I get wind in my face?
A. Yes, however as opposed to the short stock shields (8” & shorter), the wind you get will be a “clean” wind instead of the turbulent and choppy wind you experience with the stock shields.

Q. Will I be protected from the road debris, bugs and rain?
A. No. Some of the smaller bugs may be defected up and over, but it is not designed for this purpose. Last time we checked, rain falls down, so yes Martha, wet is still wet, rain is still rain – RIDE ON!

Q. Will the shield make my bike handle differently?
A. The FLARE windshields are designed to put 10-15 lbs of downforce on the front of the bike at highway speeds vs. 30-35 lbs of uplift with stock shields, meaning your bike is a KITE. Downforce will provide for a more stable ride at highway speeds.

Q. What colors do they come in?
A. 6.5” and 8” come in solid black, dark smoke and tint. 12” comes in clear and tint.

Q. Can I use my Harley Davidson chrome trim with your windshields?
A. Yes, all the FLH and Road Glide trims including aftermarket will work.

Q. Will my Harley Davidson windshield bags still fit with your shield?
A. The larger single bag will not fit but the dual bag set works fine. The triple bag set can be mashed in but is not recommended. Many customers cut the triple bag down to the center.

Q. Will my radar detector fit with your shield?
A. No. A radar detector that is mounted in the recommended fairing mount position will not fit with our FLARE windshield at this time. Most handlebar mounts work.

Q. Will my Harley Davidson GPS fit with your windshield?
A. No. A Harley Davidson GPS system that is mounted in the recommended fairing mount position will not fit with our FLARE windshield at this time. Most handlebar mounts work.

Let’s get to the real GUTS of the FLARE:
The patent-pending FLARE Windshield was developed at Klock Werks out of a desire/need for stability at highway speeds and for racing on the Bonneville Salt Flats. The “hips” at the outer edge of the shield re-route the wind to add downforce to the front of the bike, which aids stability vs. using a stock shield. The “flip” at the top of the FLARE is designed to kick the air up and then allow it to flow back as “clean” air for the rider.

The FLARE was designed to compete with the short stock shields. If you’re riding one of those, you’ll love to rock the FLARE! If you have a regular large windshield and are looking to add a sexy windshield as an option the FLARE adds downforce and great looks! In just the change of 3 or 5 bolts depending on application, you can enhance your motorcycle experience.

WARNING: You may be detained at gas stations, restaurants, and clubs with questions regarding your SEXY windshield.

All Riders are designed differently as are all bikes – that individuality is what enhances the camaraderie and uniqueness we all love. Every seat, seating position, handlebars, torso length, etc…is different and will affect how it works for each person. If you are not a fit don’t worry, we may be designing one right for you soon. Meanwhile, 7200 satisfied customers in 6 months can’t be all wrong, eh!

Stock shields allow the air to dive down behind the shield and boil around in a choppy, turbulent effect. The FLARE kicks the air out to the sides and up, allowing the wind to come back at the rider in a much cleaner fashion – TRANSLATION is your riding glasses won’t want to bounce or lift off your face.

The final and absolute most important effect is added downforce as verified by testing in the A2 Wind Tunnel in Mooresville, N.C. The results found that with a stock, short windshield there was 30-35 lbs of measurable lift at highway speeds, meaning your bike is a KITE. Rocking the FLARE adds 10-15 lbs of downforce on the front of the bike at the same speeds. Why not add a spoiler to the front of your bike? Downforce is the biggest advantage of the FLARE, no competitor piece offers this level of performance!

Barbieri Names Klock Werks Flare Windshield as Top Product at V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati

This is Melissa checking in and sending out some sweet news from Klock Werks - our Flare Windshield was named the TOP PRODUCT at the V-Twin Expo!!

Jay Barbieri, producer of the TV show American Thunder on the SPEED Channel, attended the 2008 V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati, Ohio, and published his Top Six V-Twin Expo products for 2008 in the May 2008 issue of V-Twin Motorcycles magazine. The Klock Werks Flare Windshield headlined Barbieri’s top-six list!

The Flare windshield was picked as Barbieri’s choice for top product and was quoted as “…the perfect product: smart, simple and applicable…” Barbieri noted that he liked the design of the windshield because of the way it causes down force and less drag on the motorcycle which improves handling of the bike.

Barbieri has aired his V-Twin Expo product findings on an American Thunder episode which aired on the SPEED Channel June 3. This episode will air again at 6:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, June 7; 7:30 p.m. CT and 11:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, June 24; and 7:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday, June 25.

Check out American Thunder on the SPEED Channel and listen to Jay’s rave review of the Flare Windshield. Then go on to www.kustombaggers.com and order one for yourself!!
